KIP PRESENTS: AWARENESS!

KIP PRESENTS AWARENESS!

Written by Lotte de Jong  -  reading time 3 minutes

In 2019, I presented the project WHAT ONE DRINK OR PILL A DAY CAN DO TO YOU on behalf of STUDIO &lotte during Dutch Design Week. DDW is a place where I enjoy presenting personal projects about social issues , you could call it my autonomous work. These projects have now been brought together under Stichting KIP. KIP stands for Kunstzinnige Interactieve Proeven (Artistic Interactive Experiments). Research into current social issues is at the heart of creating human interaction focused on the five senses. Soon, KIP will have its first opportunity to present itself at a new event. Drumroll, please! The cultural festival of De Havenloods! A fun celebration featuring great performances, the work of creative makers and, of course, something to eat and drink. And that drink is exactly what I want to talk to you about.

Alcohol and Drugs

The installation WHAT ONE DRINK OR PILL CAN DO TO YOU raises awareness of the effects of alcohol and drugs on your senses. Each sense allows you to experience one of the consequences of those few beers at Friday afternoon drinks or that one pill at a festival. Did you know, for example, that alcohol narrows your field of vision, making it harder to judge distances? Your reaction time also decreases, which is exactly why it is illegal to drive with more than 0.5% alcohol in your blood. By letting you experience these effects for yourself, I hope to encourage you to reflect on your own behaviour.

Challenge

And what better place to do that than at a festival?! Don’t worry, I’m not going to lecture you, nor is my goal to make sure you never open another bottle of wine. I would, however, love to start a conversation with you and hope that, before ordering a beer at the bar, you’ll take a moment to think about the consequences ;). On the Stichting KIP Instagram account, I started a challenge to challenge you. Thirty days without alcohol or drugs. Of course, you don’t have to, but from my own experience I know that drinking less or no alcohol can have very positive effects on your health. Through Instagram, I’ll guide you through the challenge with facts about alcohol and drug use, as well as tips for getting through those 30 days. You and KIP are in this together! So, are you joining?
